For the past few months Arcbazar and its partners – BuiltWorlds, CannonDesign, AIA Chicago, Dwell on Design, GreenApple Campus, Autodesk and Forum8 – have been running a competition to crowdsource designs for the Obama Presidential Library.
For those of you who are not familiar with the competition, here is the background story. Back in December, the Obama Foundation narrowed down its search for prominent architects to design the Obama Presidential Center and Library on Chicago’s South Side to seven finalists. As our partners and us heard the news, we asked ourselves, “What would the people come up with?” It was not long before the question turned into a competition. We used our platform to source design ideas from our network of brilliant architects and designers from across the world. The competition is now closed with 33 finalists battling for the prizes.
The list of competitors will be further narrowed down by our board of twelve digital jurors. The winner will be selected and announced on June 16th in the BuiltWorlds Studios by the international panel of six juror practitioners.
THE VOTERS’ CHOICE AWARD
Arcbazar’s mission is to democratize architecture. Therefore, there will be two winners – one selected by our panel of experts, the other selected by you, the public. Which design do YOU prefer? If the Obama Presidential Library were to be built in YOUR neighbourhood, what would you want it to look like? You have until June 15th to vote for your favorite design. Spread the word, let your family and friends know. Let’s make it a true network effort!
